It doesn’t need to look like that. With the cabling run inside the wall or concealed through the joinery, the whole room reads as considered and finished, not like an afterthought.

Concealed cabling means chasing a cavity into the wall or fishing cable through the existing wall space, running properly rated in-wall cable back to a power source or a new powerpoint, and finishing everything to a standard that meets AS/NZS 3000. It’s a straightforward job for a licensed electrician, but it’s not something to hand to just anyone — the cable type, the fire rating, and the point of connection all matter.
