Stay cool without the power bill shock. From bedrooms to alfresco areas, I install ceiling fans properly wired, safely mounted, and ready to run for years. Free quotes, no surprises.
Adelaide summers are brutal on power bills, and a lot of homeowners are surprised to learn just how much cheaper a ceiling fan is to run compared to air conditioning. A fan doesn’t actually cool the air — it moves it, and that airflow across your skin makes a room feel noticeably cooler without the compressor running non-stop. Running a ceiling fan typically costs only a few cents an hour, which means you can leave it on all evening without thinking twice, and pair it with your air conditioner on the hottest days to help the cool air circulate further into the room.
Beyond summer, a good ceiling fan earns its keep in winter too. Most modern fans have a reverse function that gently pushes warm air trapped near the ceiling back down into the living space, which takes the edge off heating costs during Adelaide’s cooler months. It’s a genuinely year-round appliance rather than something that only gets switched on for six weeks of the year.
The other reason ceiling fans are so popular is simply comfort in rooms that don’t have air conditioning at all — bedrooms in particular. A quality fan over the bed makes a huge difference on a stuffy summer night, and with today’s quiet DC motor fans, you get strong airflow without the rattle or hum older fans were known for. We install a wide range of styles, from simple three-blade bedroom fans through to larger, statement fans for open-plan living areas.
Bedrooms. Bedroom fan installs are the most common job we do. Usually this means removing an existing light fitting or ceiling rose, checking the roof space can support the extra weight of a fan, and running a proper fan-rated cable if the existing wiring isn’t suitable. Many bedrooms end up with a combination fan and light unit so you don’t lose your main light source in the process.
Living areas and open-plan spaces. Larger rooms need a fan sized correctly for the floor area — too small and it won’t move enough air, too large and it can look and feel out of place. We’ll talk you through blade span, ceiling height, and whether a standard rod mount or a low-profile flush mount is the better fit for your ceiling.
Outdoor and alfresco areas. Patios, verandahs, and undercover entertaining spaces need a fan that’s actually rated for outdoor or damp locations, with weatherproof wiring and fittings to match. We regularly fit outdoor-rated fans on Adelaide alfresco areas, and we’ll steer you toward the right fan depending on whether the space is fully covered or partly exposed to the weather.
Light kits and controls. Most fans we install are paired with an integrated light kit, and we wire in a wall control, pull-cord, or remote system depending on your preference. If you want independent control of the fan speed and the light, we’ll set the wiring up to suit rather than leaving you with a single switch doing both jobs.
Existing wiring vs new circuits. If you’re replacing an old fan or ceiling light, we can usually reuse the existing circuit as long as the cable is fan-rated and correctly supported. If you’re adding a fan somewhere new — a room that’s never had one — we’ll need to run a new cable through the roof space back to the switchboard or a nearby junction point, and fit proper bracing to carry the fan’s weight safely.
Most ceiling fan installations across Adelaide cost between $200 and $500 per fan, fully installed. A simple swap — replacing an old fan or light fitting with a new fan on existing, suitable wiring — sits toward the lower end of that range. Installing a fan in a room with no existing wiring, needing new cable run through the roof and additional bracing, will sit toward the upper end. We’ll always confirm the price before we start, based on what we find during a quick inspection.
The fan itself is separate from installation labour, and prices vary widely depending on brand and features. We work with well-regarded brands including Hunter Pacific, Mercator, Ventair, and Fanco, and can supply and install the fan or fit a fan you’ve already purchased. If you’re after a quiet, energy-efficient option, DC motor fans cost a bit more upfront but use a fraction of the power of older AC motor fans and run noticeably quieter — worth considering for bedrooms in particular.
