New cooktop, oven, hot water system, or air con unit? I handle the electrical connection safely, to standard, with the right circuit for the job. Free quotes, no surprises.
Induction cooktops and ovens. Induction cooktops are one of the most common installs we do, and they draw considerably more power than the gas or older electric cooktops they usually replace. Getting this right means checking whether your existing circuit can actually handle the load, or whether a new dedicated circuit needs to be run back to the switchboard. Wall ovens are usually more straightforward, but still need correct cable sizing and, in most cases, a dedicated isolating switch nearby.
Hot water systems. Electric hot water systems need a dedicated circuit sized correctly for the unit, along with a compliant isolating switch. We regularly handle the electrical side of new hot water installs, and we’re happy to coordinate directly with your plumber so the job runs smoothly from both ends without delays.
Dishwashers and dryers. These are lower-draw appliances but still need to be wired correctly, with appropriate switching and safe cable runs, particularly in kitchens and laundries where dedicated circuits are standard practice. We make sure the wiring is tidy, safely secured, and won’t cause problems down the track.
Air conditioning connections. For split-system and wall-mounted air conditioning units, we handle the electrical component — running a dedicated circuit, fitting the isolating switch, and connecting the indoor and outdoor units safely. We often work alongside air conditioning installers, taking care of the electrical certification while they handle the refrigeration and mechanical side.
It’s tempting to think appliance installation is a simple job, but connecting anything hardwired — cooktops, ovens, hot water systems, air conditioning — is licensed electrical work in South Australia, and for good reason. Get the circuit sizing wrong, use the wrong cable gauge, or skip a required isolating switch, and you’re looking at a genuine fire risk, not just an inconvenience. It can also void your appliance manufacturer’s warranty and create problems with your home insurance if something goes wrong.
Many new appliances, especially induction cooktops and larger ovens, draw more power than the circuit they’re replacing was ever designed for. This is where a proper assessment matters — we check your switchboard capacity, the existing circuit, and cable run before connecting anything, and if a new dedicated circuit is needed, we’ll explain exactly why and quote it clearly upfront.
Every appliance installation we complete comes with the correct isolating switches fitted, cabling sized to the manufacturer’s specifications, and where required, a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work. That paperwork matters if you ever need to make an insurance claim or if you sell the property down the track.
Straightforward appliance connections where suitable wiring already exists — think a like-for-like oven swap or a dishwasher on an existing circuit — typically cost between $150 and $350. Where a new dedicated circuit is required, such as upgrading to an induction cooktop or installing a new hot water system from scratch, costs generally run from $350 to $700 depending on cable length, switchboard access, and how much work is needed to run the new circuit safely.
The biggest factor in cost is almost always whether the existing wiring can be reused or whether a new circuit needs to be run. Homes with an older switchboard may also need extra capacity added before a new high-draw appliance like an induction cooktop can be safely connected — we’ll flag this during our assessment rather than after the job has started.
